If you’d like to add a touch of greenery to your home but don’t want to spend hours taking care of your plants, then this is the perfect list for you! These easy low maintenance indoor plants will thrive in most indoor environments and do not need to be watered very often. Not only do they make great decorations, but they also provide benefits like purifying your air, eliminating odors, reducing stress, and more.

1. Aloe Vera Plant

This beautiful succulent only needs water once a month and will thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid placing it outside under bright light, as it can turn yellow with time. The ideal temperature for Aloe Vera is between 55 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the common room temperature for most apartments and homes. Your Aloe Vera doesn’t need water as often as other plants. You should plan to water it every 2-3 weeks during the spring and summer, and between 4-5 weeks during fall and winter. If you decide to make use of the Aloe Vera’s soothing and healing properties, you can do so by removing a mature leaf and cutting it lengthwise. Once cut, you can squeeze the gel out and use it for many things such as heartburn relief, lowering your blood sugar, healing a burn, and for skincare.

2. Pothos Plant

The Pothos plant is a great place to begin caring for houseplants if you’re a beginner. Pothos plants are one of the easiest plants to grow and they look beautiful in your home! They only need to be watered once every 10-14 days when the soil is dry. Thriving in a wide range of environments, they flourish best in medium to bright indirect light. However, in most cases, they will still do well in low light. This beautiful plant also has health benefits like purifying the air, eliminating odors, and helping alleviate eye irritation!

3. Majesty Palm

Add a tropical touch to your home with the Majesty Palm. They will thrive in indirect light or low lighting. You need to keep it watered every 1-2 weeks to make sure it stays happy, and you need to repot them once a year to give them more space to grow. The average home temperature is sufficient for the Majesty Palm as well.  This lush looking plant also keeps the air healthier AND it’s pet-friendly!

4. Dumb Cane

The Dumb Cane, also known as a Dieffenbachia Plant or Leopard Lily, is a beautiful tropical perennial known as the “Dumb Cane” because chewing the plant can result in swelling of the tongue and cause difficulty speaking. It only needs to be in a partly shaded location, and is best grown as an indoor plant. You do not want this plant to dry out, so you might have to water it once or twice a week. The best way to not overwater your plant is to allow the top two inches of the soil to completely dry out first before watering. This plant is toxic when consumed so it’s not pet or kid-friendly.

5. Snake Plant

With very little water and light needed, the snake plant is a must for your collection of low-maintenance plants. They will thrive in most lighting conditions and only need water every 2-3 weeks. Since this plant does not need much light, you can keep it in your bathroom and it will help purify the air! If you do have pets, avoid this plant since their leaves are toxic to pets and humans when ingested.

6. Cactus

Succulents in general are very low maintenance and will thrive in the right conditions. It’s best to place this succulent in a bright place such as facing a bright window. If you notice your cactus is turning yellow, the light may be too bright. Your cacti should be watered once a week or when you notice the soil has mostly dried out.

7. String of Pearls

This beautiful cascading succulent will add a beautiful touch to any space in your home. Consider displaying it in a hanging basket or a tall location like a shelf where it will freely cascade downwards. Your String of Pearls will thrive in indoor temperatures like 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit, but you should avoid full direct sunlight. For example, it will do well next to a sunny window with indirect light. This succulent only needs to be watered once every two weeks in the summertime, and only once per month during wintertime. Additionally, if you want to share the beauty of this plant, it’s easy to propagate! Your friends and family will love how easy this plant is to take care of.

8. Lucky Bamboo

Lucky Bamboo is a symbol of luck and prosperity and is well-known for its use in Feng Shui over the last 5,000 years. It can be trained into beautiful shapes like swirls, hearts, braids, and other imaginative designs. Lucky Bamboo is a perfect indoor houseplant because of how easy it is to take care of. Make sure to keep the soil slightly damp, but not overwater it. Since this plant will require moderate or indirect sunlight, avoid placing it under a bright and sunny window to prevent it from scorching the leaves. Keep in mind that Lucky Bamboo is toxic for cats and dogs, so make sure to keep it out of reach.

9. Spider Plant

The Spider Plant is known for its air-purifying qualities and adding a bright and vibrant touch to your home. This plant will tolerate lower light conditions. However, it will thrive in bright, indirect light as well. When it comes to watering, it’s best to allow the soil to completely dry out before you water it again. It will do well in room temperatures between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. It is non-toxic and safe for humans and pets, making it the perfect gift for a beginner.

10. Monstera Deliciosa

The Monstera, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, is a popular tropical plant known for its natural leaf-holes. It appreciates a warm, humid environment and will thrive in medium to light indirect light. The ideal soil is slightly moist, and you should allow it to dry between 50-75% before watering again. Since they are tropical plants, they do prefer a humid environment, but they will easily acclimate to normal room humidity. If you mist it with water once a week, this plant will stay happy. You should repot it every 18-24 months to allow it to grow. It is mildly toxic to humans and pets if consumed, so be careful where you place these plants.

Conclusion

Reap all the benefits of having indoor houseplants without putting in the extra effort. Not only will these plants add a beautiful touch of color to your place, but they’ll also bring health benefits and will make you happier overall! These plants are guaranteed to spruce up your living area without the extra effort. It’s a win-win!
